  6. Believe it or not, there are a lot of things about friendship and marriage errors and problems that I learned in Desperate Housewives.

I saw how some problems might arise because Lynette was too dominant as a wife, how she sometimes looked down his husband (tho she didn’t mean to) and etc. I learned not to be the same. However, I also learned about a strong marriage that Tom and Lynette had. They got 5 active kids, when a tornado came and destroyed Wisteria Lane, when Lynette had to deal with her cancer….they somehow still encourage each other, and still stand beside each other. There was a quote of Tom that I really love: If you guys are willing to break up over an ice sculpture, I think you guys should absolutely not get married. Because who gets to choose the ice sculpture, who should take out the trash, who has to stay home and make the mini pizzas, that’s the little stuff. What are you gonna do when the big stuff comes along? What are you gonna do when a tornado hits your house or you have problems with your kids, or one of you gets cancer? At some point, the crap is going to hit and that is why now before you make the commitment, you should ask yourself ‘Is that person next to you worth the troubles?’ Do you love him or her so much that no disease, no disaster could possibly pull you apart?”

I myself surprised to see how Gabrielle and Carlos grew up so much in terms of their marriage. If you see the first season, you’ll find how a disaster their marriage is. Gabrielle was having an affair with her gardener, Gaby and Carlos were both so arrogant and think money can buy everything, how flying plates happens if they are fighting, how Carlos had anger management issues, how materialistic Gaby was.   They even once divorced to each other, tho ended up get back together again. There was a time when the tornado hit and cause Carlos became blind. And as if it is not enough, they lost their $10million saving and became poor. But at this point, Gaby still stood beside Carlos. Even when Carlos said “Gaby, its not going to be easy.” She replied him “I know. But like I said, for better for worse.” They also finally had 2 girls, in their low times. Gaby lost all her stunning wardrobe, she had to trade all her expensive jewelry in order to live the family. If you knew Gaby, she wasn’t that kind of women, but she grew up a lot and knew what is sacrifice. Same as Carlos, his blindness turned him 180degree. He worked himself to help the poor after he got his sight and wealth back. There was also one quotes of Carlos that I really like. He said it to Gaby when Gaby was so worried Carlos will get disappointed to see Gaby once he got his sight back, ‘cos Gaby wasn’t as beautiful as years ago.

Carlos Solis: Did I ever tell you when I knew I was going to marry you?

Gabrielle Solis: First time you saw me on the runway.

Carlos Solis: Nooo. That’s when I knew I was gonna sleep with you. Nah, I knew I was going to marry you the night we went to that restaurant on 3rd Street.

Gabrielle Solis: Mmm. I remember that place.

Carlos Solis: Mm-hmm. You wore a white linen sundress and you ordered this giant plate of ribs. And you ate them with such gusto - up to your elbows in barbecue sauce, meat hanging from your teeth and grease in your hair - and when it was all over, I pointed out what a mess you were. You pulled out your mirror, took a look at yourself, and just let out this huge, happy, totally unrestrained laugh. The room completely filled with it, and I thought to myself now *that* is a sound I’d like to hear the rest of my life. That’s why I proposed to you. And it had nothing to do with your looks.
